A student who uses the Career Focusing process has an advantage over students who do not use it. The students who use it have a shortened list of occupations as possibilities. They won’t waste any time taking courses that they don’t need. They also will have more knowledge and a better understanding of the occupations and the schooling that they would use for the short list of occupations. This process would greatly help every student as it allows them to focus their energies on a few occupations, rather than hundreds or even thousands.” (Grade 10 male)

When I look back, I am glad to have participated in this program. It has helped me get information about various plans in my future as well as present. It has given me much more confidence. I can now change my plan when new opportunities emerge. Generally it has given me a clearer path to success that I’m thankful for. (Grade 10 female)

Back in grade 10 I attended a session that was centered around youth gaining an understanding of where their interests lie and how to put that into a career path. What we found out about myself that evening is that I enjoy and have skills and interests in “helping people be successful”. Some 15 years later, this has come true and through the last 15 years it was happening but it has taken my 31 year old self to understand how that evening has shaped me. Through my career in economic and community development as well as coaching youth in hockey I am practicing this daily. As my life shifts to raising a family I now have a new focus that I want to help be successful. Thank you for that evening. (Ben Haggerman)
