Services for Teachers

Teachers are key players in developing students’ 4th literacy – the ability to make informed,  intentional career decisions that take them to satisfying work,  learning and life activities – over and over again

Teachers are perfectly positioned to teach students how to make informed, intentional decisions about what to do next – decisions students stick with because they know they are heading to places that are truly a good fit, and therefore, are worth working hard to get to. The skill of career decision-making is critical because informed, intentional planning is what takes students to all the future meaningful work they will do, whether the work is paid, unpaid, learning or leisure. People who are in work that fits will always be healthier, happier and more productive. Unfortunately, teachers are too often placed in the position of relying heavily on a single strategy… the  information strategy. Teachers in roles both inside and outside the classroom provide an array of activities and exercises that load their students up with information:

  • about themselves – interest inventories, skills inventories, learning styles, multiple intelligences…
  • about work and learning –  speakers, online resources, tours, workplace visits, career fairs…

Teacher do this in the hope that students will somehow figure out how to put it all together. But the majority of them can’t. We all know what the results are. The Jobmatics teachable career decision-making frameworks actually teaches students how to figure it all out.
